CAR703 – rallying for research
The Targa Tasmania is an iconic, international event and CAR703 is an international team.
The Driver is Geoff Bott and he lives in the Blue Mountains in NSW, Australia.
Geoff says, “I’ve always been mad keen on old cars and learnt to drive on the family farm, driving tractors and an ancient Austin 7. My first real car was an MGTF but I later used to rally a Hillman Imp and then a rather more reliable Datsun 1600 in state rally championships. Can’t say that I was a real danger to the top competitors as I had to drive the car to work during the week after rallying it on the weekends. Family and life intervened but I did organise and direct the 1975 Rothman’s Walkerville 500. In 1990 I acquired a Holden engined kit car, a 1962 J&S Hunter 179 Coupe, that I still have. I restored and raced it in historic racing events at Phillip Island, Mallala, Oran Park, Amaroo Park, Wakefield Park and Eastern Creek. My most successful events were at Lakeside in Qld where I think that the car still holds the lap record for its class.
In 1991, 92 and 1993 I conceived and was Clerk of Course for the Repco Mountain Rally, then competed in it from 1994 to 2000, winning it outright in 1997 and 1999 in my 1964 Jaguar E-type FHC. At the same time I also competed in many other classic rallies as well as the Grand Prix Rally, Classic Adelaide rally, founded the Classic Rally Club and served on a number of CAMS committees relating to classic rallying.
As for work, I own and operate Blue Mountains Getaways based at Leura, NSW and provide holiday accommodation as agent for almost 100 cottages in the Blue Mountains.

Englishman Brian Foster is the co-driver. Originally from Leeds in the UK, Brian now lives near Penrith in New South Wales, Australia.
Brian’s uncle is the famous UK television personality Sir Jimmy Savile who is recognised as one of the most prolific fund raisers for charity in the whole of the United Kingdom. Brian’s goal is to eventually rival his famous uncle’s achievements through his association with the fund raising activities of the Oncology Children’s Foundation.
Brian regularly competes in his own race car and has navigated in many events up to international level at the Classic Adelaide. In 2005 he was placed 3rd in class in the East Coast Targa Rally and went one better at the Classic Adelaide in 2006 when placed 2nd in class.
Away from the race track Brian has been married to wife Dawn for 25 years and is an IT Manager in a city law firm
